Amazon’s Top 10 Bestselling Mysteries – May 2010
Though they do seem to change overnight, I found it very interesting that today’s (May 12, 2010) top 10 bestselling Mysteries (which includes crime novels on Amazon) shows the following:
1. Breach of Trust by DiAnn Mills
2. The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet’s Nest by Stieg Larsson
3. The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo by Stieg Larsson
4. Dead in the Family (Sookie Stackhouse, Book 10) by Charlaine Harris
5. The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (Vintage) by Stieg Larsson, Reg Keeland
6. The 9th Judgment by James Patterson (Author), Maxine Paetro
7. Innocent by Scott Turow
8. Hide in Plain Sight by Marta Perry
9. The Girl Who Played with Fire (Vintage) by Stieg Larsson
10. Caught by Harlan Coben
Find out who’s 11 and up on the Amazon Bestseller list.
Do you see the problem with the above list? Check out number 5. See it now? It’s not enough that The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo is number 3…the “vintage” version has to be on there too? What’s with that?
Okay, so I noticed that James Patterson’s new novel (see post below), The 9th Judgment is on the list but further down. Check out the rest of the list to see who else is on there.
The 9th Judgment by James Patterson (The Women’s Murder Club) is out in hardcover…and the reviews are in!
James Patterson’s The
Women’s Murder Club series has everyone talking. From the reviews I’ve found, nobody has anything negative to say!
What people are saying
“I can’t believe how good Patterson is, whether he’s doing a Washington police yarn or traveling a different road with a female narrator. He is always on the mark. I have never begun a Patterson book and been able to put it down.” (USA Today Larry King )
About the book
The most personal
A young mother and her infant child are ruthlessly gunned down while returning to their car in the garage of a shopping mall. There are no witnesses, and Detective Lindsay Boxer is left with only one shred of evidence: a cryptic message scrawled across the windshield in bloodred lipstick.
The most dangerous
The same night, the wife of A-list actor Marcus Dowling is woken by a cat burglar who is about to steal millions of dollars’ worth of precious jewels. In just seconds there is a nearly empty safe, a lifeless body, and another mystery that throws San Francisco into hysteria.
The most exciting Women’s Murder Club novel ever
Lindsay spends every waking hour working with her partner, Rich–and her desire for him threatens to tear apart both her engagement and the Women’s Murder Club. Before Lindsay and her friends can piece together either case, one of the killers forces Lindsay to put her own life on the line–but is it enough to save the city? With unparalleled danger and explosive action, The 9th Judgment is James Patterson at his compelling, unstoppable best!
True Crime and Non-fiction Author Stephen Wade has been added to our database!
Author Stephen Wade takes you on a journey into the past with several of his books including his July 2009 release, Hanged at Lincoln.
Book Description:
“Hanged at Lincoln” gathers together the stories of criminals hanged at both Lincoln Castle Prison and HMP Lincoln on Greetwell Road between 1716 and 1961. The condemned featured here range from coiners and forgers to thieves, highwaymen and poisoners. Among the infamous murderers executed at Lincoln include Richard Insole, executed in 1887 for the murder of his wife; child-killer Frederick Nodder, hanged in 1937; and, Herbert Leonard Mills, who failed to commit the perfect murder and was hanged in 1951 by Albert Pierrepoint. Infamous executioners also played a part in the gaol’s history. Thomas Askern hanged Pricilla Biggadyke at Lincoln in 1868, the first private female hanging (she was later found to have been innocent and was pardoned), while at the age of 54, William Marwood persuaded the governor of Lincoln Prison to allow him to conduct an execution. The efficient way in which he conducted the hanging of William Frederick Harry in 1872 assisted him in being appointed hangman by the Sheriffs of London and Middlesex.

Added Urgent Care by CJ Lyons & Book Video
I just added CJ Lyons’ newest book to the site: Urgent Care. It’s on my to-be-read list for sure, because I really enjoyed Warning Signs (I wrote a review of Warning Signs if you want to read it). I haven’t ever read Lifelines (the first of the Angels of Mercy series) but I plan to get my hands on a copy soon. First though, I’m going to read Urgent Care, because I actually already have my hands on a copy of that one. :)
Book Description
CJ Lyons returns to the front lines of the ER and the lives and loves of four very special women in her latest book, a new medical thriller…
Angels of Mercy Medical Center charge nurse Nora Halloran has been living with a painful secret for two long years. But when a coworker is brutally assaulted and killed, she knows she can no longer remain silent. Determined to unmask the murdered, Nora teams up with her friends&mash;Lydia, an ER attending doctor with a secret of her own; Gina, the once-cocky resident struggling to strike a balance between her family and her job; and Amanda, the med student caught between her conscience and her career.
As the victim count grows, Nora must face her deepest fears and reveal all her secrets to save the man she loves, and to stop a killer from striking again.
If you get the chance check it out. And of course, as soon I get done reading this one, I’ll post a review to share my opinion of it.
Also, I came across this neat book video.
A little bit mystery, a little bit crime, and a little bit romance…is there any better work of fiction than one that covers all of your loves?
While I tend to love romantic fiction sometimes more than anything else, I’ve found that I go gaga over books that contain a combination of all the elements that make up a really great mainstream-type fiction book. For me those elements are: romance, mystery, and crime.
Now, I hear everyone saying that most crimes always have a touch of mystery. The who did/dun it element, but a really great author will make it more than about the who and more about the why and how. Even if you know from the start (even if it’s spelled out!), the best reads for me are those that make you wonder and try to play Sherlock Holmes and figure out the mystery behind the crime.
One of my favorite authors who does this combination so super … "A little bit mystery, a little bit crime, and a little bit romance…is there any better work of fiction than one that covers all of your loves?" continues >

July 3, 2009 New York Times Bestsellers!
As a follow up to Terescia’s post on June 10th, I thought I’d see what Amazon had on this weeks’ Top 20 New York Times Bestseller list. And…guess what?…there are more Mystery and Crime Fiction Books on there than any other writing genre. From time to time we tend to see more romance novels on there, but here lately I’m seeing more and more mystery and crime books than ever … "July 3, 2009 New York Times Bestsellers!" continues >
